Domestic violence is an unfortunate reality in many marriages and family relationships. In Louisville, Kentucky, there is a Domestic Violence Intake Center available to process emergency situations on the first floor of the Jefferson Hall of Justice located at 600 West Jefferson Street.
In Kentucky, if you apply for an Emergency Protective Order (EPO), you will be required to attend a domestic violence hearing in front of a Family Court Judge. At the hearing, both you and your partner or family member, with or without attorneys, will present evidence of the emergency incident reported. At the hearing, a judge may issue a Domestic Violence Order (DVO) which can provide legal protection for up to three years.
The attorneys at Sparks Integrative Family Law have helped many clients through the EPO and domestic violence hearing process. If you believe you may be the victim of domestic violence or you have been accused of committing acts of domestic violence, we will be happy to discuss your options with you. For more information, the Kentucky Domestic Violence Association's website it available.
